Jetpak Enhances Quality and Data-Driven Analysis with Mercur

Jetpak delivers fast logistics solutions, reducing lead times for door-to-door deliveries with 45 years of experience and over 170 locations.

Through the introduction of Mercur Business Control®, Jetpak has gained considerable time savings by reducing manual Excel tasks and increasing the time available for valuable data analysis, which has enabled smarter and faster decision-making.

Background

Jetpak evaluated several different suppliers during their procurement process to select a system for 'Decision Support', financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting. After several vendor presentations for a system that could manage all requirements, the obvious choice was to select Mercur Business Control®.

Jetpak chose Mercur Business Control® for budgeting, forecasting, monthly reporting, eliminations, and analysis. Mercur imports data from several source systems that are used to perform deeper analyses at various levels within the organization. Initially, Mercur has been integrated with Unit4, Cognos and FACT.

In order to analyze exchange rate differences, Mercur also provides integration with the Riksbank to enable the retrieval of exchange rates.

Areas of use 

Through the creation of simple to navigate input forms, budgets and forecasts are created in Mercur for the different group companies across multiple geographies.

A crucial factor for Jetpak is that forecasted intercompany eliminations in multiple counterparty currencies are made, to ensure that internal trade across the organization is calculated.

Jetpak deploys Mercur to analyze the income statement in granular detail to compare it across previous periods through an income analysis of key figures and movements. A significant advantage is that all data is now collected and available in a single application and that users can navigate and drill to the lowest transactional level.

 

Reduce manual work

Mercur replaced the manual "cut and paste" routines and has allowed Jetpak more time to analyze data rather than manually  manipulating data from spreadsheet to spreadsheet.

This was achieved by creating simple, easy-to-navigate budget and forecast input forms that replaced the old Excel templates in these processes. In Excel, the organization worked with several hundred different tabs and templates with 100% manual input of historical data, where the risk of incorrect consolidation of the new budget was extremely high.

Now we can focus on a value generating budgeting process and the analysis of a more accurate budget instead of spending time searching for errors in Excel templates.

Jetpak sees terrific value in the dynamic reports produced and the functionality with drill down as well as the ability to produce underlying data both by company, account and period. The added value of being able to easily see all supplier invoices with just one click and without leaving the system greatly facilitates the analysis of results.

After the introduction of Mercur, Jetpak also had the benefit of increasing the number of forecasts during the year, which created a better overview of the entire business.

  • Review which data sources you want to integrate with and availability.

  • It is essential to get the users on board at an early stage in order to raise their commitment and interest in the system. We ensured everyone could test, use, and learn to navigate the system as quickly as possible.

  • It is useful to be reminded from time to time about all the functionality we have available in the system. We have focused on drilling down to scanned invoices and filtering and other important functions in our operational analysis.

What does the future look like for Jetpak?

Jetpak is in the process of replacing its core financial system and implementing a data warehouse to facilitate more data integrations. The next step for Jetpak is to commence a project on customer profitability analysis in Mercur, by collecting up-to-date sales data from all its companies, on a daily basis.
